Nepal Tour

Day 1
Date: 26-11-2016
Route: Tinsukia to Guwahati

Distance travelled: 497 Kms

Hi friends
Recently I toured north eastern Nepal and Kathmandu alone. Experienced lots of thing during my ride. Want to share some of them with you. My English is not good so please bear with me.

I started early in the morning. Got up at 3:00 AM. Could not sleep the previous night properly, as I woke up 3-4 times. However it was my mobile alarm that woke me up when it mattered.

I tried to keep my luggage as less as possible but I had to carry 2 bags. A travelling bag, which I put and tied on pillion seat. Another bag I carried on my back which had my clothes and frequently needed items. I was going to the places where I had never been but I knew the road conditions will not be good. The hilly road of Nepal will test both me and my motorcycle. So I took necessary parts like- Accelerator cable, clutch cable, fuse, spark plug etc. The mechanic in the bajaj workshop demonstrated how to change them. He also gave a list of necessary tools for fixing them. My big concern was the tube tyres of my bike. Tubeless tyre puncture are easy to fix and require less tools and labour. But tube tyre, we all know its much harder. But I had no choice. I bought two tyre levers, foot pump, patches, glue(solution), wrench, adjustable wrench etc.iIn addition to pluss, screw driver box and other small tools. These things occupied much space in my bag and made it much heavier.
I my trip consisted of 12-13 days so I was thinking about my family whom I was going to miss, specially my little daughter.

It was all set and I moved from Tinsukia at 3:55 AM. It was dark chilly morning. Road conditions are quite ok in upper Assam. So I hit 70-80 kmph even in pitch dark and fog. As it was getting brighter, near to Sibsagar a bird hit the visor of my helmet. I did not stop to see the fate of that bird. But later I saw blood stains on petrol tank of my bike.  Felt sorry for that bird. It also left a scratch on the visor of the helmet. I reached Jorhat at 7:00 AM. Rode 186 Kms non stop in 3 hours. Had tea and breakfast there and moved. Took another break at Jakhalabandha. Worst thing happened there. I left my distance and direction chart in the paan shop where I stopped. It was in the next stop where I knew about this. Can’t go back. I was much worried about this. From Nagaon it was 4 lane super highway.  It was much smoother sailing for me. I touched top speed of 95 kmph. This is nothing because I know guys who ride at 120 kmph with ease. Maintaining a average speed of appox. 60 kmph I reached Sonapur near Guwahati at 12:00 Noon. 450 Kms in 8 hours.  Had lunch and took rest for 40-45 minutes. Then I moved to Guwahati where I stayed in one of my friend’s house. Here are some pics of the day.

Jakhalabandha.. this is where i left my direction chart.

It was a comfortable ride through the day. Though my bums were burning at the closing stages of my ride but there was no bodyache or backpain. Later in the evening, I asked my wife, back at home to take a photo of that lost chart from my laptop and send it in whatsapp. She did and I felt relaxed.
