Day 3
Date of Journey: 28-11-2016
Route: Itahari to Chainpur
Distance Travelled: 162.4
I started late today. I got up at 7:30 AM
and moved at 8:30 AM. Outside the hotel people were staring me and my bike as
if I was from different planet. One of them from a group sitting outside could
not resist asking me “ हजुर कहाँ बाटा आउनु भाको?, यो नंबर प्लेट त नेपाल को हैन.” I told him this is
Indian no. plate and I am on Nepal trip. After a little conversation I moved.
It is difficult to find petrol in interior hilly regions of Nepal so I thought
to carry extra petrol after getting my tank fully filled. I made space in my
bag and carried 4 litres of petrol in 2 two litres sprite bottles. In Nepal few
months back petrol and diesel was rarely available due to road blockades but
they said it was not a problem now. Petrol is cheaper in Nepal. It is just Rs.
60.00(97.00 NC) here. In Assam it is appox. 69.00.
I reached Dharan which
is 18 Km away. This place is known as Fashion Capital of Nepal.
At Dharan..
From this place
hilly road starts. Road is quite good. Not that wide but enough for crossing
two vehicles. I reached Basantapur at 12:30 PM which is 105 Kms away from
Itahari. Bhedetar, Dhankuta and Hile are main towns through the road. I made
lot of stops to view scenic spots. Here are some snaps which I took.

I had another 75 Km. of
grueling ride on unsurfaced road to reach my destination known as Pokhrang. I had
read about the road on internet but when I saw the road condition, I thought it
was going to be very very difficult. But as a hindi proverb goes. “ ओखली में सर दिया तो मुसल से क्या डरना” I started riding on the road. The road was full of
powdery mud with small big boulders lying here and there. Steep ascend and
descend in such road made my ride difficult and tiresome. It requires lot of
skill to ride on such road conditions.
Though I have rode on hilly regions and
dirt road but I never rode on dirt with slope.
I started talking with myself a lot more and kept saying myself to keep
cool. At least on 4-5 occasions I lose control over my bike but somehow avoided
falling. I kept telling myself not to apply front brake. But after ride of 12
Kms. I lose my control over my bike and in panic situation I applied front
brake and this is what happened.
My right leg got stuck
in the bike. Just took out my leg and with no soul around I had to lift my 155
Kg. bike alone. Crossing small small habitations and some better road in
between, slowly and surely I reached a place called chainpur a small town at 3:30
PM. It took 3 hrs to travel 51 Kms.

I met a policemen there and asked him the
road which leads to pokhrang. He suggested me not to move as road leading there
is even worse and it was getting darker also. He was very kind and he led me to
a small lodge where he arranged me a room with food. He gave me his mobile no.
and told to contact him in case of any problem. I requested a selfie with him
but he refused as he cannot take photo with civilians in his uniform. Salute to
him.
In evening I strolled
around the town and had good time with other guests in the lodge.
